Who Should Take the MHFA Refresher Course?
Mental health first aiders play a vital role in providing mental health support within workplaces and communities. However, without regular refresher training, these skills may become less effective.
Our Adult MHFA Refresher Course is designed for:
- Certified Mental Health First Aiders who want to feel confident in applying the health first aid action plan.
- MHFA Champions looking to update their knowledge of mental health support.
- HR professionals, managers, and supervisors who handle mental health issues in the workplace.
- Individuals supporting colleagues or loved ones experiencing mental health problems.
Attending a refresher course ensures that your aid training remains up to date, just like physical first aid.
What Happens If You Don’t Refresh Your MHFA Skills?
Regular skills updating is crucial to ensure that mental health first aiders can provide the right mental health support practice. Without attending a refresher course, you risk:
- Losing confidence in applying first aid mental health techniques in a mental health crisis.
- Forgetting critical self-care skills, which can impact your own wellbeing and ability to help others.
- Missing updates on new best practices, reducing effectiveness in responding to mental health issues.
- Not recognising the latest warning signs of mental health problems or knowing how to take action.
- Failing to keep up with legal and ethical considerations that impact workplace mental health policies.
Just like physical first aid, mental health first aid training must be refreshed to ensure you stay competent and confident.
Online vs. Face-to-Face Training: Which Is Right for You?
Our MHFA Refresher Course is available both online and as a face-to-face session. Choosing the right format depends on your learning preferences, schedule, and interaction style.
| Factor | Online Training | Face-to-Face Training |
|---|---|---|
| Flexibility | Learn from anywhere at your own pace. | Scheduled sessions at a physical location. |
| Interaction | Virtual group discussions and online activities. | Hands-on exercises and live workshop activities. |
| Convenience | No travel required, complete from home or office. | Engaging half day course with in-person support. |
| Support Resources | Full access to the MHFAider Support App® and ongoing learning opportunities. | Printed course materials, aid refresher training, and immediate Q&A with instructors. |
| Best For | Those who prefer flexible refresher training. | Learners who grow in face-to-face environments. |
Both options ensure you receive high-quality training to feel confident in supporting others.

Richie –
Hi, I reached out to Richie after the course to say that he is by far, the most engaging trainer I have ever had on a course. We have more team members doing training next month and I hope they also have Richie.
